Instead of being confined to one specific genre, Silica Gel’s sound is an eclectic mix of shoegaze, psychedelic rock, dream pop, and more. A common thread that ties everything together is the band’s ability to create infectious melodies that are uniquely theirs.

After a few changes in their group formation, Silica Gel is currently made up of 4 members. They are led by Geonjae on drums, Hanjoo on vocals, keyboard and piano, Chunchu on vocals and guitar, and Woonghee on bass. Their live performances are also especially captivating, as they incorporate visual jockeying (VJing) to create immersive experiences that transcend boundaries for all audiences. The way they defy expectations and balance themes of introspection and escapism also make Silica Gel a fascinating band to discover.

Lose yourself in these 3 tracks from Silica Gel

1. NO PAIN

This track originated from the thought of time relentlessly flowing by and the exploration of finding something that can transcend time and space. This philosophical musing resulted in this hope where Silica Gel sought to break free from the relentless rush of life. Pairing uplifting lyrics with their infectious band sound, this song is the perfect song to make anyone a fan of them.

No pain, no fail
World without music
Nowhere, no fear
Shade of ocean

2. I’MMORTAL (feat. sogumm)

Silica Gel’s forte of blending and morphing genres shines in this track. Although it does not have a clear structure, weaving different complex parts together from the members also helps perfectly reflect the intended theme of ‘dissociation’. Further elevated by sogumm’s unique voice colour, Silica Gel creates a dreamlike and meditative track that will stay in your heart.

Save, revolting future
Save, me falling short
Save, with worried heart
Save, full of secrets

3. Ryudejakeiru

Touching on the concept of resilience in the face of hardships, the lyrics convey an earnest longing for brighter days amid emotional turmoils. Silica Gel also sings with raw sincerity and strength, making it an incredibly touching one to listen to.

Ryudejakeiru
Even in the midst of a million disasters
I will just earnestly protect this
The sun is in my mouth
